Today I’m going to share the recipe for my favorite DIY all purpose cleaner. It gets the job done, while keeping my family, and the environment, safe.

What does that have to do with an intentional life and stewarding well? The truth is this- if we’re exposed to toxic products for too long, we could end up sick. And if we end up sick… we’re not going to have the same opportunities to live well and serve well.
After the birth of my first child, I ended up getting diagnosed with an autoimmune condition (mentioned in this article). Ever since then, I’ve been on a mission to clean up the food we eat and the products we use.
This natural, homemade, all purpose cleaning spray, is a huge part of how we keep our home toxin free.
Homemade All Purpose Cleaner
I believe that having a good DIY all purpose cleaner is one of the first steps you should take in transitioning your home to a toxin free space.
You use all purpose spray cleaner on SO many different things, nearly every day. If you can avoid exposing yourself, your family, and your environment to those dangerous carcinogens, endocrin disruptors and neurotoxins… you really should!
Conventional all purpose cleaners certainly aren’t the only harmful household cleaning products. But since you can do so much with an all purpose cleaning spray, it’s where I suggest you start if you’re just beginning the transition to safer and healthier natural cleaning products.

What You Need
Before you get started making your homemade all purpose cleaner, you’ll need to make sure you have just a few things on hand.
- Glass Spray Bottles. Whenever possible, it’s best to put products that are made with essential oils into glass storage containers. This is because the essential oils can break down plastic, which is not ideal.
- White Vinegar. White Vinegar is a life-saver when it comes to DIY cleaners. It can kill many household bacteria.
- Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide has even more antibacterial powers than vinegar, so I like to add a little bit to my all purpose cleaner. I also use it for a DIY laundry stain remover. Since I use it in a couple different cleaning recipes, I like to be cost efficient and buy a gallon and store in in a cupboard in the utility room.

How To Make All Purpose Cleaner
Once you know how easy and affordable it is to make your own homemade cleaning products with essential oils, you’ll wonder why you ever wasted your money on all those different cleaning products before.
Put a really pretty waterproof label on your glass spray bottle.
You can get creative with what you call your spray, but all I did was write ‘All Purpose’ on my label, along with the ingredients. That makes it super easy every time I go to re-make the cleaning solution. Also, my daughter’s water spray-bottle for her hair looks the exact same… so I thought it was important to differentiate.
Although, that being said, this stuff is so natural, it wouldn’t be an issue if we mixed it up! But I digress.
The Process
After you have your pretty label on:
- Put 1 Tbsp of hydrogen peroxide in the spray bottle.
- Add 1 Tbsp of baking soda
- Add water until it’s about half way full.
- Add vinegar until nearly full.
- Add essential oils of choice. I prefer to use germ destroyer in this recipe to keep it simple! Sometimes if I’m looking to change up the scent I’ll do a combo of lemon, orange, and tea tree. Really… there’s so many options for you to customize this DIY all purpose cleaning spray and make it your own!

You’re Ready To Clean!
That’s seriously all there is to it. Just give that bad boy a good shake and get busy! I use that on my counters, my sinks (with extra baking soda), showers, tubs… and my favorite way to use it is cleaning windows and mirrors.
I didn’t think I could ever beat the Norwex window cloth… but a little bit of this spray and then wiping it down with an Amazon basics microfiber cloth gives you just as good (I think better) results, for a fraction of the price tag.
