I did a small 2-part series on healing. The first one was “Does God Heal Today?” and the second one was “10 Bible verses about healing.” Today I’m going to talk about 12 healthy cookbooks for autoimmune disease and inflammation.
A huge part of my healing journey (which is always in motion) is nutrition.
I have learned so much about nourishing my body through the adversity of being ill. This is knowledge that I wouldn’t trade. I’ve said over and over that I’m thankful I had the opportunity to learn this. Without me or my son being sick… I may never have given myself the opportunity to dig into the healing power of the food God provided for us!
There are many cookbooks that have been my constant companion. All of these books are (to a degree) good for autoimmune diseases and inflammation.

Inflammation is the root of so many diseases, including autoimmune diseases. So, I strongly believe that we should all be eating an anti-inflammatory diet as often as possible.
For a person with an autoimmune disease, eating an anti-inflammatory diet has the potential to decrease their symptoms, flare-ups… and to possibly put the person one a path to healing. It can’t be understated how important a healthy diet is.
So, as we begin the process of reducing inflammation and addressing autoimmune disease, it’s important to have a few good, trusted, healthy cookbooks in your corner!
In this post, I’m going to list several of my favorites. While these are not all exactly autoimmune-paleo diet cookbooks, they are extremely valuable, and present education along with recipes.
Healthy cookbooks for autoimmune disease and inflammation
- Gut and Psychology Syndrome. This book should be number one on the list of anyone who has an autoimmune disease. While this book was originally written to address autism, ADD, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, schizophrenia and depression, it is truly helpful for anyone who is finding themselves with a chronic illness. This book breaks down gut health and shows us how to strip things down to the beginning so that we can start to rebuild.
- GAPS Introduction Diet Cookbook. If you read the Gut and Psychology Syndrome book and then decide to give the GAPS diet a try, a book like this introduction diet cook book can be incredibly valuable! It can feel overwhelming and limited to be at the beginning of the GAPS diet. A book like this will give you the burst of energy and inspiration you need to believe it is possible to heal your gut.
- The Heal Your Gut Cookbook. This is another great cookbook for the GAPS diet. I purchased this one in Kindle from initially (which was great), but I find myself to be the kind of person that prefers to have a physical copy of a cookbook. Seems to be easier for me!
- Nourishing Traditions. This book is HUGE and filled with so much knowledge about the full, functional health, of the human body. I cannot recommend it enough. It has a ton of recipes, but more than that, you will be so thankful for the information that fills that book. It’s a gold-mine.
- The Grain Free Family Table This cookbook is without a doubt one of my favorites. That’s likely because the author, Carrie, has Hashimoto’s (which is the autoimmune disease that I have). Carrie managed to reverse her Hashimoto’s through detox and a nutrient dense diet, and she details her process thoroughly in this book. With that wealth of information and a book FULL of delicious recipes, this is a keeper for sure!
- Eat Dirt. This book is by Dr. Josh Axe, and again is full of education. It speaks to the importance of gut health, while giving us gut-friendly recipes. I’ve used this one over and over again.
- Against All Grain. This book is by Danielle Walker (along with the next 2 in this list). Danielle also overcame an autoimmune disease with a healing, nutrient dense, grain free diet. When you see her before and after pictures, you will understand how far she has come! This book is full of great recipes to get you on the healing path.
- Against All Grain: Meals Made Simple:Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Paleo recipes to make anytime. Another great one by Danielle Walker. She truly makes it easy.
- Eat What You Love At the time I’m writing this post, this is a brand new book by Danielle Walker. I don’t even have this one yet (hello, birthday list), but because of the quality of her past work, I’m putting this down here now for you guys!
- Trim Healthy Mama’s Trim Healthy Table. This is probably the most used cookbook in my house. It’s not completely grain free, but it is so full of AMAZING recipes for the whole family. These ladies know how to make sugar-free sweets like no one else. And you know what… that’s exactly what I need sometimes. This book is also full of the most delicious, healthy soups. It’s truly amazing.
- Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook. This one by the Trim Healthy Mama ladies is full of 350 recipes that your whole family will love. It’s loaded. From desserts, to drinks, to main courses, sides and salads… whatever you’re wanting… it’s in here.
- Trim Healthy Mama Plan: The Easy Does it Approach. This book clearly explains the Trim Healthy Mama approach to eating. With autoimmune disease and inflammation, gaining weight (and sometimes losing weight) is common. The Trim Healthy Mama ladies have made balanced nutrition easy. They can show you how to put on a few pounds, but there true expertise is keeping you trim and healthy.

This statement stood out for me: “Inflammation is the root of so many diseases, including autoimmune diseases. So, I strongly believe that we should all be eating an anti-inflammatory diet as often as possible.”
While I don’t have any health issues, I do need to eat properly and wisely so I’m going to check out a few of these books as a preventative measure against inflammation.
