If you look back just a few hundred years, you’ll notice that our bodies only had to detox a few things…. mainly bacteria and viruses.  Now however, our bodies are expected to detox us from a whole slew of things, including chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, and more… Every. Single. Day.  This is why you NEED to know the best ways to detox your body.


The truth is, that even though our bodies are responsible for filtering out more junk than ever before, our elimination organs and detox pathways remain unchanged.  We still have the same liver, kidneys, gut, skin, sweat glands, etc… to do the job.  But the job is a whole lot bigger now.

When we start thinking about how to remove toxins from the body, we shouldn’t just be thinking about:

  • how to detox your body from sugar
  • how to detox your body from alcohol
  • best detox for weight loss
  • how to detox your skin
  • … Or any other detox you can think of.

This is the amazing thing about doing a detox for your body.  When the detox is done correctly, it will detox you from EVERYTHING, and you’ll see the specific benefits you want to see.

So, if you’re wanting to lose some weight to ensure your health is where it needs to be, you will likely achieve that with a proper, gentle detox.

If you’re wanting to clear your skin of some persistent acne, you will likely achieve that with a proper, safe detox.

Why Do So Many People Require Detox

Gone are the days when our bodies only had to filter out bacteria and viruses, etc…

We now live in a very toxic, modern world.  Our bodies are bombarded with chemicals daily.  From what?

  • Our food
  • Water
  • Our personal care products
  • The air
  • Stress
  • And so much more.

Our bodies were beautifully designed to detox from these toxic chemicals & pollutants, however, we are more loaded down with toxins than ever before.  Despite this… we still have the very same elimination organs that are having to work over-time to cope with the toxic load.

When these toxins and excess hormones aren’t cleared out of our system, it can result in the symptoms I listed out in the section above.

How Does The Body Detox

The body has 7 pathways of elimination.  These include:

  1. Liver
  2. Kidneys
  3. Gut
  4. Lymphatic System
  5. Lungs
  6. Skin
  7. Sweat Glands

In order to support the body to effectively detox in this modern world, we need to focus on these detox pathways.

When we’re looking for the best ways to detox your body, we first want to focus on what to put in your body during a detox.

  • Lots of veggies (3-6 cups per day).  Focus on cruciferous veggies and raw carrots.
  • Protein.  The liver needs protein in order to detox.  Look for clean, organic, meat sources.
  • Healthy fats.  Our cells need fat to function.  They also assist in keeping the blood sugar balanced.  Healthy fats include avocado, olive oil, coconut oil, , etc..
  • WATER.  And lots of it.  Add lemon in the AM to get those digestive juices flowing.
  • Dandelion Tea
  • Ginger

Now, we’re going to talk about what to avoid during a detox.

  • Sugar.  Sugar increases inflammation, hi-jacks blood sugar, and at the same time, disrupts hormone levels.
  • Bad Fats.  These include Canola oil, corn oil, peanut oil, and cottonseed oil
  • Alcohol.  Let your liver focus on what it really needs to do during a detox.  Give it a break from processing alcohol.
  • Other inflammatory foods.  These include soy, dairy, wheat, corn, and all grains.  This is not to say all of these foods are always bad!  But, during a detox we want to keep things as easy for our body as possible.  So leave these foods out for a little while.

Another one of the best ways to detox your body is to check your products.

Many personal care items are loaded with fragrance, parabens, phthalates, SLS. formaldehyde, and more.  All of these things add to your toxic load.

Move & Sweat

Get your blood pumping and the sweat flowing each day with exercise.  This is a great way for you to expel toxins via sweat and skin.

Saunas are another way to get sweating.

Another option to target the lymphatic detox pathway is to try dry brushing. Dry brush your skin for a few minutes before having a hot bath.  This way, you’re targeting the lymphatic system, the skin, and the sweat glands.

Supplements For Detox

There is only so much our bodies can do without supplements.  The soil is not the same as it once was, which means our food does not have the same levels of vitamins and nutrients.

Because of this, supplementation has become necessary.

Supplement ingredients that are great for detox:

  • amino acids
  • B-vitamins
  • glutathione
  • milk thistle
  • vitamin C
  • burdock root
  • aloe vera
  • black walnut
  • licorice root
  • dandelion
  • slippery elm bark
  • turmeric

Keep in mind that NOT ALL SUPPLEMENTS ARE CREATED EQUAL.  Be very choosy.  Don’t add to your body’s toxic burden by picking bad supplements.  Also don’t waste your money by choosing supplements that don’t work effectively.
